Venezuelan Government Accused of Persecuting Volunteers Instead of Helping

A volunteer interpreter platform created to support international rescue teams in Venezuela announced its immediate shutdown on June 30, 2026. According to the platform’s official statement, documented cases began to emerge of volunteer interpreters allegedly being pursued by Venezuelan state security forces, including SEBIN and DGCIM, simply for collaborating with international rescue brigades during the humanitarian emergency.

The platform stated that, while thousands of people urgently needed assistance, some volunteers who wanted to help were allegedly facing intimidation and persecution instead of protection and support. To safeguard their safety, privacy, and personal information, the platform immediately shut down and permanently deleted all volunteer data from its database.

More than 100,000 people reportedly joined the initiative, offering their language skills, time, courage, and solidarity to help rescue teams and affected families. What began as a personal project quickly became an extraordinary humanitarian movement.

The organizers emphasized that protecting volunteers must always come before any project or initiative. Their message remains powerful: people who dedicate their time to helping others and supporting rescue efforts should be protected, not persecuted. The courage and solidarity shown by more than 100,000 volunteers will not be forgotten.
